Marrying this with the spacey psychedelic approach of early Hawkwind and mixing in a distinct personal touch, while preserving their icon's warm vintage charm can doubtlessly be considered the trio's key to success- astoundingly high vinyl sales and support shows for bands such as Sleep, Saint Vitus, Pentagram, and Electric Wizard as well as stunning festival gigs at "Stoned From The Underground," "Yellowstock," and "Fusion Festival," among others, underline Kadavar's status as one of the scene's most exciting acts. The Shrine Josh Landau, Courtland Murphy, and Jeff Murray. From Venice, Los Angeles, California. -Formed in 2008, The Shrine play a houserocking breed of heavy, psychedelic, riff-based rock 'n' roll. Their debut, recorded on vintage reel-to-reel tape by local hero Dave O. Jones and under the auspices of the notorious Chuck Dukowski, is the perfect soundtrack to any debaucherous gathering of longhairs. If you and your rag-tag group of riff-raff friends are planning a road trip to Humboldt County to "score," this is the album you need to be listening to on the way.- Harley Rother Mondo Drag John Gamino, Nolan Girard, Jake Sheley, Ventura Garcia, and Andrew O'Neil. -From Oakland, California. -Under the spiritual guidance of the forefathers of heavy psych, prog, and proto-metal, Mondo Drag has created an amalgamation of sounds the likes of which have not resounded through the atmosphere for decades. The bands unique sound and rare cohesion probably stem from the fact that core members John Gamino, Nolan Girard, and Jake Sheley actually grew up within a one mile radius from each other, attended the same schools, were a part of the same scene, and have played music with each other for 15 years. The band's stellar live performances have become a thing of wonder and have seen the band share stages with contemporary artists such as Sleepy Sun, Dead Meadow, Withcraft, Pentagram, Black Mountain, Wooden Shjips, and High On Fire to name a few.
