Michael Cobra. Jess Gowrie. -from San Francisco, CA -Happy Fangs is San Francisco's war-painted and wiry rock trio poised to release their first LP, Capricorn on January 27, 2015. SPIN has already praising their song, In The Morning, for its "righteous guitar crunch and relentlessly chugging drums.” Controlled Burn is commended by HuffPo Entertainment for its "pure raw energy and powerful vocals with a sexy edge in a free-for-all of creative styles blending perfectly together." The album's heaviest track, Lone Wolves was recently featured in Modern Drummer and described by Bloody Disgusting as a "blistering, ferocious assault on the senses, powered by pulsating drums, fuzzed out guitars, and in-your-face howls.” Happy Fangs is a band of three front-persons. Vocalist Rebecca Bortman, formerly of My First Earthquake & guitarist Michael Cobra, formerly of King Loses Crown, played their first show as Happy Fangs in 2012. This January marks the one-year anniversary of the addition of drummer Jess Gowrie of Sacramento's Im Dirty Too, a duo with Tycho's Zac Brown. Together, the band creates rambunctious anthems, which SF Weekly describes as “insanely fun riot grrrl ferociousness.” Happy Fangs' live shows juxtapose strong black and white visuals with their contrasting pop meets rock sound. Each show is a flurry of enthusiasm, loud guitars and hard-hitting drums—the trio writes an original song at each show based on an audience's suggestion. Some people say rock is making a comeback. Happy Fangs is proof that rock-n-roll is here to stay. Black Map Mark Engles, Chris Robyn, Ben Flanagan -from San Francisco, CA -Amongst its ranks, Black Map includes vocalist and guitarist Ben Flanagan [Trophy Fire], guitar player Mark Engles [Dredg], and drummer Chris Robyn [Far]. It's a formidable three-piece that creates equally formidable music, elegantly striking that elusive balance between heavy and beautiful. On their full-length debut for minus HEAD Records, And We Explode, Black Map charts new territory for its members and hard rock. Within a month of their first jam session, the trio hit Hellam Sound in Oakland with producer Aaron Hellam behind the board. They cut their independent Driver EP and went on to support Chevelle on tour and play various shows with the likes of ††† (Crosses), Tombs, Pelican, and Kill Devil Hill. In early 2014, they inked a deal with minus HEAD. Now, they're primed to make a massive impact. El Terrible Terry Ashkinos, Scott Eberhardt, Adrian McCullough -from San Francisco, CA -"It don't get spicy enough for El Terrible," which was the nickname given to Terry Ashkinos formerly of Fake Your Own Death (Monolathe Recordings) and Elephone (Talking House Records) when he was working as a short order cook in a Los Angeles Sizzler. Hailing from San Francisco, the music of El Terrible started in a small apartment above a bar during an extended stay in Berlin where Terry was sent by the US government to study the fall of communism. What came out of that time is a very personal collection of sparse, dark, catchy and literary songs. The band is a ferocious three piece featuring Scott Eberhardt on drums and vocals, Adrian McCullough on bass, keys and vocals and Terry Ashkinos guitar and vocals. El Terrible have been tearing up local and national bills over the last year opening for bands like Blood Red Shoes, !!!, and The Weekend. The band is both soulful and dynamic, wrought with post-punk urgency. SF Chronicle: "Great gothic 80s inspired rock with dark baritone vocals. El Terrible's music is dense indie rock that reminds us that rock is supposed to be dangerous." DJ Douglas Teike Douglas Teike -from Indianapolis, IN -I am Douglas Teike. I make automated music. I am Retic. I am not Retic. Retic is Douglas Teike. |
