Ancient Mariner
-from the Bay Area, CA
-“Ancient Mariner are fantastic...they do an unbelievable job retelling Iron Maiden’s ancient tales of harlots, killers, and phantoms with phased plasma rifle accuracy!”
Inzo Der Barracuda - ArnoCorps

Owl
-from Oakland, CA
-In the deep past, in 2007, in the infernos of proto-metal, twin harmonies, and doom, Owl was forged. In 2010 an album’s worth of minimal demo(nic) riffage and draconian indulgence surfaced in Jackson, CA, propagated by two brothers, and piqued the interest of industrious local artist and drummer Clint Baechle. Owl played their first show at a barbeque near/off MLK Street in the proving ground of Oakland, CA’s then house scene.

Somehow it clicked, and DIY funds materialized from sweat, effort, and dedication (no lie). The self-titled LP followed in November 2012, as principal songwriter A.K. sweated out the resins of literature, the Bush years, and job loss. Owl toured behind the record for about two years before releasing the full-length road bomber Screech on tape in 2014, vinyl in 2015. Original bassist Melanie Burkett was “over it” by then though, choosing diverse careers in pork, beer, and cheese – she remains a bad-ass to this day.

Enter Jamie Sanitate, author of “Pyramid Builder” and ultimate Iron Maiden fan. Jamie’s athletic, NWOBHM-influenced bass playing buoyed Owl through a period of intermittent touring while the band grappled with new ideas. Finally in 2018, “Awaken The Mountain” was released as a single, highlighting Owl’s heavy-prog interests and the Pompeii-inspired songwriting of guitar animal and band founder Axell Baechle.

Owl’s ambitious third album Geomancy enhances baroque elements of guitar composition while maintaining a defiant, barbed-wire anti-sociality. 10-minute prog epics erupt from inspirations bestial as cougar maulings, odes to Earth’s continued viability rend consciousness in humanistic terms. Trenchant dual guitar leads echo Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Thin Lizzy, and King Crimson.

Currently in USA, Owl is working with Night Demon’s Armand John Anthony to produce an accessible, mainstream rock album. Bassist Magic Spiegel debuts on "2 Rock." Look for Owl’s fourth LP in 2025. Senses sharp – Owl will snatch you away.
