The Ific theificband.bandcamp.com garage rock power pop Detroit Cobras -from Detroit, MI -There was a recent memorial event/show in Detroit, to honor Rachel Nagy and her passing over to the other side. The Detroit Cobras featured at the event. A few weeks prior to the event, Marcus Durant (Zen Gorilla, MC50) approached Mary with the idea of having him sing a few songs. He even presented her with a demo tape of some DCs songs where he'd had Rachel's vox removed and he recorded his over. Mary had had no plans of replacing Rachel, but this got her to thinking and after listening to the tape, she agreed to have him join them. It went well - REALLY well - and they are now looking at playing more together. Not that Rachel can ever be replaced, but they're hoping to be able to keep the band's fire burning. Sutros -from San Francisco, CA -Sutros is an off quilter punk band from SF. We draw inspirations from an handful of different wells like noise/drone, free jazz, rock’n’roll, and pop. It's a distinctly eclectic makeup of weirdness and groove. The Ific -from San Francisco, CA -The Ific have each individually woven themselves in and out of the San Francisco area scene fabric for decades like stray, weirdly mismatched, irregular threads that don't fit in with the overall textile of players and bands trying to either out-overdo each other or are loaded with schtick. Jeff Jewhurst (The Clarke Nova, The Scramblers, Hampton Wicks) is the man with the vision. Yeah they have gritty '66 garage rock and roll, with some opium den fuzz delirium, but throw in actual songwriting outside of the minor pentatonic trap. The line-up is loaded with Jeff Jewhurst lead vocals, guitar, Neil "Endy" Young on bass (Jonny Manak and The Depressives, Fuzz Attack, Hot Laundry) newest addition Rob Vhe guitar ( The Lewd, The Seagulls. The Control Freaks, Motorhome) and drum killer Matt Naworski (Kingdom of Dirt) |
